1. I avoid 'public sharing' apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter now, but I still use Snapchat. While I like how Snapchat involves sharing only with those specified, I do understand that the information is still accessible to the corporation (and other corporations by purchasing information) through legal means, and also accessible to third parties that may maliciously gain the information illegally.
2. Google is able to tell me how my location and other account information can or (supposedly) cannot be used by third parties like businesses and content consumers. I know that all of my information, if shared online, can still be gathered with or without my knowledge, if I am not careful. Or even if I am!
3. With a very quick Google search, I was able to find my blog site (a good thing), my three past addresses (likely based on tax/voting/legal records), and even meeting minutes from my high school district council about my AP exam scores from 2016!
4. I tried addresses.com and whitepages.com and found a lot of the same information regarding addresses and age. I also noticed that from these two sites, a lot of the information on the surface seemed to be information I used more when I shared more online, and now that I have not shared much, a lot of my current information seems to be harder to detect. I also believe Whitepages has a service to remove the information from their site.
In this activity, I consider my own practices - or lack thereof - of privacy in the online domain. It is simultaneously shocking and wonderful to see what a simple Google search can dig up on a person, including myself. This strikes home how careful we must be in sharing information in the form of text, images, documents, etc. The more pieces of the puzzle we share, the clearer the picture for anybody looking in.
